In tune with the steep increase in the global demand in the 90’s for innovative and sophisticated equipments and instruments, the Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering was established with a B.E Programme in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering since inception of the College in the year 1997. The Master of Engineering program on Control and Instrumentation was started in the academic year 2006 – 2007. The department has two Professors, three Associate Professors and twelve Assistant Professors supported by four non-teaching staffs. The department has an admirable staff - student ratio of 1:15. It adopts ISO 9001: 2008 quality procedures and standards effectively to improve the overall quality of technical education. It is also accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), AICTE, New Delhi and Institution of Engineering (India).

The objective of the department is "To develop innovative, competent and quality Instrumentation Engineers by imparting state-of-art technology and to enrich the knowledge of students through value added education”.

The faculties of the department have actively participated in many research activities and published research papers in various International Journals with good impact factors. The students of the department are guided to carry out their project works in most emerging areas of Control & Instrumentation like DCS, PLC, SCADA, Microcontrollers, Process Control, Bio-medical Instrumentation and other inter-disciplinary areas like Soft Computing, Image Processing, Cryptography etc. with high Impact Factor Journals as reference. They are well trained to work with Lab VIEW and MATLAB softwares. The students of the department are actively involved in co-curricular and extracurricular activities and have won gold medals and prizes in various competitions at both district and state levels.

The department has well equipped Laboratories with DCS, PLC, Lab VIEW & SCADA. The Instrumentation Lab featuring Bio-medical equipment like ECG, EMG, EEG and analytical instruments highlights the highly interdisciplinary nature of the department. All the laboratories are well-equipped and sophisticated with the overall investment of about Rs. 2 Crores. The Process Control Laboratory installed at a cost of about Rs. 60 lakhs has application in the areas of Programmable logic controllers ('PLCs'), Distributed control system (DCS) supervisory controller and data Acquisition System (SCADA) which take over the absolute control of various Stations like the Batch Process Station, Bottle Filling System, Water Level Controller, Speed Control, Computer Controlled Processes like flow, pressure, level and temperature, to mention a few. It is equipped with recent trends applied in industries like smart transmitters, Closed Loop Pressure Control Station, Pneumatic controllers, DSP processor, Feed Forward Controller, Ratio controllers and cascaded control systems, Spectrum Analyzer and latest Processors with advanced software. The facilities of the laboratories have been enhanced with the addition of new equipment like Interacting and Non-Interacting Trainer Kit, Digital PID Controller, Analog PID Controller, Cascade Ratio Control trainer for Flow Level Process Monitoring and Feed Forward Controller.

Yokogawa's DCS, the CENTUM CS1000 R3, meets all these needs and more with its open architecture, flexibility, and compatibility with existing systems. It is proud to say that our Process Control Lab has the facility of this DCS system which gives the real time control experience. The project was taken up at an estimated cost of Rs. 18 Lakhs. The 'DCS' thus serves the purpose of controlling many process stations, accessed from undefined locations, to a full degree.

Lab VIEW (short for Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Engineering Workbench) is a platform and development environment for a visual programming language from National Instruments. Virtual Instrumentation Lab haves multiuser Lab VIEW software and DAQ cards for interfacing. Students have developed many projects in this field. This laboratory is well-equipped and sophisticated with the overall investment of about Rs.25 Lakhs.

The departmental Library, which offers international magazines and fully accomplished inter–disciplinary references, focuses on the overall growth of students of the department. It has a total of more than 750 volumes which includes the general ability, personality development and prescribed textbooks.

The department has always been prompt in providing the students with the opportunity to take part in periodical Seminars on current technical developments. The latest advancements in the fields of Instrumentation technology are brought in for easy availability to students. The experts from MNCs like Yokogawa come across here to provide the professional training. One week training programme on Distributed Control System (DCS) certified by Yogakowa is conducted in the department every year for the benefit of final year students. Also, one week training programme on Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) & SCADA is conducted for the benefit of pre-final year students.

The department has organized several faculty development programmes sponsored by various funding agencies like DRDO, AICTE, CSIR etc. The department has well equipped in-house research facilities to carry out the Doctoral programs in the emerging fields like Robust control, Bio-Modeling, Distributed control system, Virtual Instrumentation, Non Linear controller design, Model predictive control, Plant wide optimization etc.
